Daily Job Search Advice from the CEO of EnvironmentalCrossing
A. Harrison Barnes, Founder and CEO, EnvironmentalCrossing
Several months ago I was trying to sell a commercial property and had the most ridiculous time contacting the agent who was selling the property for me. I would get a call that would go something like this:
“Hi, I have an offer on the property. Please call me back to discuss.” These calls would typically come at 7:00 am or 9:00 pm, during which I was generally unreachable.
Excited about the offer I would then pick up the phone and start calling the agent back. I would try him two or three times throughout the day and never reach him. This process would go on and on for days. In one case, I could not reach him for over one week.
Although I do not like to go into detail about people’s strengths and weaknesses,
Liberty Green Renewables, a biomass-to-energy development company with offices in southern Indiana and Houston, Texas, plans to build a 28 megawatt biomass-to-electricity facility near the community of Milltown in Crawford County, Indiana. The plant will process woody biomass material from a number of local forest product industrial sources.
The development is expected to create significant economic benefits to Crawford County and the Milltown community. During the 18-month construction phase, more than 100 construction jobs would be created. Once completed, the biomass facility will employ approximately 25 people in plant operations, maintenance and administrative positions. Additional indirect jobs related to fuel logistics will also be created.
The facility is scheduled to begin operation in late 2011.
You know things are bad when the world’s richest near-monopoly is planning to cut jobs.
The world’s top software firm, Microsoft, is planning a massive reduction in its workforce, and up to 15,000 jobs may be cut this month. The cuts will be the first wide scale layoffs in the Redmond, Washington-based company’s 32-year history.
Speculation about job cuts was triggered by a report on Fudzilla, a technology blog site, which reported that employees were told that the company was preparing for major layoffs from its global operations on January 15th.
