The time is right to join HNTB! We are seeking candidates for the position of Traffic Noise Analyst III in our Raleigh or Charlotte, NC offices.
The Traffic Noise Analyst III position would be responsible for conducting noise analyses for highway transportation projects primarily in support of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The applicant would work on multiple projects and interact with all levels of staff. The applicant must have a thorough knowledge of highway engineering planning, design, and construction practices and principles. As a mid-level professional position, the applicant would apply their academic and past work experience and knowledge on a wide variety of noise related projects. An applicant would work directly with clients, and would be responsible for going to meetings with clients and project stakeholders, as well as interacting with internal and external experts in their field of expertise. This position involves some oversight of junior staff.
Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.
Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities- Conducts field studies and traffic noise modeling and prepares written Traffic Noise Reports (TNR) and Design Noise Reports (DNR) consistent with the requirements of 23 CFR 772 and the NCDOT Traffic Noise Policy and Traffic Noise Manual. - Coordinates and conducts field work related to noise analyses for highway projects. - Conducts traffic noise modeling using the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Noise Model (TNM) and construction noise modeling using the FHWA Roadway Construction Noise Model. - Utilizes TNM to design noise barriers and Microstation to prepare envelope drawings. - Utilizes Microstation as necessary to develop geometric inputs to TNM. - Utilized ArcGIS to prepare TNM inputs and create figures for noise reports. - Creates written noise technical reports for transportation projects including but not limited to projects prepared under the requirements of NEPA and SEPA. - Interacts effectively with other staff and stakeholders/clients. - Participates in community meetings, workshops and hearings. - Plans and arranges schedules and budgets for projects with an emphasis on budgeting time to finish projects on time and on budget. - Coordinates project team activities and delegates work when appropriate. - Drafts project proposals and scopes and budgets as needed for projects. - Provides direction to junior staff in conducting field studies, noise modeling, and document preparation. - Works with federal, state and local government clients as assigned. - Performs other related tasks and special assignments as required. - Responsible for discipline engineering designs. - Helps supervise, schedule and check work of project team members. - Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects. - Responsible for productivity of subordinates and on time, on budget projects.
Basic Qualification Bachelor's degree in Engineering 5 years relevant experience EIT
Preferred Qualification/Skills- Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Environmental Science, or related field - 5 years of specific noise analysis including experience working with TNM, MicroStation, ArcGIS, 23CFR772 and State DOT noise policies and procedures - Proficiency with TNM, MicroStation, and ArcGIS - Professional Engineer (PE) registration in NC - Experience with EPA\u2019s MOVES model is a plus - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including ability to prioritize and multi-task under strict deadlines - Strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability succeed with new and challenging tasks - Sets challenging and measurable and sustainable goals in collaboration with manager(s) - Identifies and meets the needs of clients within established guidelines - Understands task expectations and how tasks fit in the overall project - Works collaboratively with project team and client to achieve established goals - Organizes written work in a manner that is clear, easy to follow, and tailored for the intended audience
General Work Conditions Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client\u2019s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
