Director, Climate Parents
Climate Parents mobilizes diverse parents and families to advocate for clean energy and climate solutions through grassroots and grass tops campaign work at the local, state and national level. We work with our members to supporters to project the voice of parents and families as a powerful force for climate action.
The Senior Campaign Representative, Climate Parents has overall program responsibility, and provides experienced leadership and strategic planning engage parents and families in campaigns to stop dirty energy and to rapidly expand clean energy in communities across the country. The person in this position (1) coordinates with **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. capacities, including communications, digital strategy, federal policy, and organizing to ensure strategic alignment of the campaign goals and effective execution of the campaign plan, (2) manages and monitors campaign resources and expenses, (3) creates and executes campaign plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements (4) represents **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.'s Climate Parents program to government officials, allies, the media, other organizations, and the public.
Plans and carries out activities for Climate Parents. Participates in the development of a strategic campaign plan, goals and objectives including development and support of strong, diverse grassroots network to achieve Climate Parents' goals related to challenging dirty energy and promoting 100% clean energy. Works with the campaign and appropriate national staff (including communications, digital, organizing, legal, advancement, federal policy and other staff), regional and Chapter staff, allies and volunteer entities to plan and implement campaigns to achieve results.
In collaboration with the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. stakeholders listed above, engages key players in climate and clean energy movements, elected and appointed decision makers and their influencers to assure advancement of Climate Parents' priorities.
Works closely with Director to drive Climate Parents primary campaigns, including one to move school districts to support districts across the country to adopt resolutions committing to 100% clean energy. Builds and supports a national network of campaign supporters including diverse stakeholders from PTA's and other parents groups, student groups, Green Schools organizations, social economic justice and racial organizations, and climate justice groups. Drives high-level engagement with key decision makers including school district officials and board members.
Monitors, analyses, and evaluates policies, initiatives and new developments around the electrification of school buildings with clean energy as well as other priority policy priorities as they emerge.
Supports and provides senior level professional expertise to staff and volunteers, and partners.
Works with other Climate Parents staff to support the development of Climate Parents local groups and engagement with **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. chapters.
In coordination with Communications Department, serves as **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. spokesperson to media outlets and promotes media exposure for front-line communities and volunteers. Writes, edits, and reviews educational and advocacy materials.
Represents the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. to the general public and to strategic allies.
In coordination with Advancement Department, assists with donor communications, cultivation, and solicitation.
Reports on progress toward established goals and the effectiveness of campaign strategies.
Introduces creative ideas and approaches for consideration.
Performs miscellaneous duties as directed.
Knowledge & Skills & Abilities:
B.A./B.S. degree in Environmental Studies, Political Science, or a closely related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
3-5 years of experience as a campaigner or comparable position, which includes substantial experience planning and managing national or grassroots campaigns, including developing strategy, organizing, lobbying, media relations, and working with senior level leaders.
Proficient knowledge of climate and clean energy issues. Experience in the climate movement a plus. Experience with racial justice work a plus.
Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated public speaking and media presentation ability. Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
Ability to and interest in working with parents grandparents, families and youth.
Deep commitment to and interest in promoting equity and justice in campaign work.
Excellent project management, planning and data tracking skills.
Substantial experience and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers.
Able to travel occasionally/as needed to campaign sites, retreats, etc.
Excellent computer skills.
Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.
