Duties and Responsibilities
Develops and maintains the Environmental Compliance Program (ECP) inventory and inspection program for compliance with University, City, State, and Federal Environmental standards, codes, regulations, and best practices.
Develops and maintains inventories of University assets or operations that may be monitored for environmental compliance.
Conducts periodic inspections and/or monitoring activities of University assets or operations that may be monitored for environmental compliance.
Conducts periodic environmental compliance inspections of University construction and R&M projects to ensure compliance with applicable project plans and University, City, State, and Federal standards, codes, regulations, and best practices.
Prepares written reports summarizing the results and observations of inspections and/or monitoring activities and makes recommendations based on observations and application of standards, codes, regulations, and best practices.
Conducts periodic building surveys for Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permits (IWDP) and coordinates with Facilities to ensure compliance with IWDP.
Recommends and implements changes and improvements to ECP inventory and inspection records and standard operating procedures to improve efficiency and data management.
Develops ECP training materials.
Independently or as a team member, represents the ECP and participates in environmental awareness, sustainability, and pollution prevention programs (e.g. coordinating the University fluorescent lights disposal).
Develops and maintains an inventory and maintenance program for ECP equipment and supplies.
Responds to campus chemical spills that threaten the environment.
Other duties as assigned
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Sciences, Ocean and Earth Sciences, Civil Engineering, Sustainability, or Planning, or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for environmental compliance or occupational safety and health; or equivalent education/training or experience.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field environmental compliance and/or of occupational health and safety as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with environmental compliance and/or occupational health and safety.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of environmental regulations and best practices.
Considerable knowledge of the methods and equipment used to conduct environmental inspections and monitor environmental controls.
Considerable knowledge of the methods and equipment used to prevent, control and countermeasure environmental hazards.
Experience in an academic environmental and/or occupational health and safety program.
Experience in field inspections.
Experience in construction site inspections.
Professional certification in safety or environmental.
Experience using Google Suite (e.g. Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Sheets).
Experience using cloud based inspection management and / or inventory management software.
