Fellows serve as a resource to Bon App?tit chefs, managers and guests interested in understanding or strengthening sustainability-related programs and\/or launching new initiatives in their caf?s. The chosen applicants will engage creatively with communities where Bon App?tit manages the food; generating interest in food and sustainability challenges and communicating Bon App?tit policies through farm visits, guest lectures, educational events and assistance with the implementation of sustainability-related programs.Between campus visits, Fellows perform research to inform innovative programs that will maintain the company?s position as a leader in sustainability. Fellows? projects are constantly changing, and have included work on reducing food waste, defining fair farm labor, creating a network of student gardeners and farmers at colleges around the country, providing support and resources to students interested in running the Real Food Calculator, and supporting food recovery programs.Fellowships are intended as an opportunity for recent college graduates of campuses that are served by Bon App?tit. This position looks for candidates that are active in sustainability issues during their time on campus and want to share knowledge about and passion for agricultural issues and sustainability in the food service industry.The Fellowship is generally a one year position with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement. Chosen applicants will work remotely from their choice on a short list of locations within their assigned region. We are currently seeking applicants for the Midwest and West Coast regions, working from one the following cities: Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, OR, the SF Bay area, or Los Angeles. **In addition to your resume, please attach a cover letter explaining your interest in the Bon Appetit Fellowship program.** MAJOR DUTIES\/FUNCTIONS\/TASKS: Preparing for, executing, and completing follow-up from visits to Bon App?tit cafes in the individuals? region, with the goal of engaging the community and Bon App?tit team members in discussions about social and environmental issues with the food system. Campus visits are flexible to fit each fellows? preference for interaction style, interests and approach, but should include classroom visits, farm visits, presentations, and student group meetings; Tackling special projects, as assigned, to further current or potential sustainability commitments and initiatives, such as Farm to Fork, waste reduction and prevention, campus farms and gardens, and animal welfare commitments; Writing and editing communications materials, including blog posts and articles for BRAVO, about activities hosted on campus visits, Farm to Fork vendor visits, and other activities or projects undertaken in the role; and Completing administrative duties, such as expense reports, as needed. Note: Job duties are subject to change as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A 4-year college degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Communications or related area. Past attendance at a college or university where Bon App?tit managed the food; A strong track record of interest and experience working on sustainable food and agriculture issues; Knowledge of public health, environmental and social issues related to food and agriculture; Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities; Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including comfort speaking publicly and with the media; Self-starter with ability to work independently and collaboratively; Ability to think critically and to effectively deal with unique challenges as they arise; Ability to spend up to 80% of time traveling and work independently and from home when not traveling; flexible schedule to include occasional evenings and weekends; and Familiarity with the food service or restaurant industry preferred.
