The Vertex Companies, Inc. is looking for a dynamic, energetic individual to join our team in Irvine, CA as a Seismic Engineer, with skills to perform Seismic Risk Assessments and Property Condition Assessments. The Engineer we are looking for will enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects on a fast-paced schedule, working with staff to assess sites across the country, and providing field oversight on a variety of projects. More specific details are described below.
Complete Probable Maximum Loss (PML) and Property Condition Assessments (PCA) reports including all field work, data compilation and report preparation, depending on the scope of work and terms of contract
Perform Seismic Risk Assessments and field observations of various property types, including industrial, commercial, and residential properties
Probable Maximum Loss or PML work will focus on the assessment of buildings for expected seismic performance and risk, including utilizing industry standard seismic risk assessment software and methodologies, reviewing construction plans, soils reports and other available documentation
Perform site characterizations and evaluation of geologic hazards
Conduct field investigations to evaluate the type and condition of building structures, systems, and exterior features
May also perform structural/forensic investigations and construction loan monitoring work
Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy
Prepare, review and submit final reports
Track time from staff (weekly timesheet management)
Other project duties as assigned by senior staff
Minimum of 7 years of related seismic experience, more than 10 preferred
Prior PCA experience is required
Prior Phase I ESA experience is a plus
Knowledge of seismic design and retrofit requirements utilized in current and past building codes
Professional license or certification (PE, PG or CEG) required
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science Construction Management or related field
Walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain, climbing of ladders to access and evaluate roofing conditions and roof mounted equipment
Carry field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity
Ability to travel, the position typically involves approximately 30-40% field time and 60% office time
