This position requires a Bachelor's of Science degree in Natural or Physical Science from an accredited college or university. Must have a valid Florida driver's license. Must be willing to work outside all day if needed. Must be willing to drive your personal vehicle at certain times when representing the Department. You will be reimbursed at the state rate for mileage when this occurs. Must be able to lift up to 60lbs.
Certified as a Florida Environmental Health Professional in the area of Onsite Sewage is preferred but not required.
This is a professional position in which the employee performs a variety of technical and skilled duties primarily conducting inspections in the OSTDS program, as specified in the rules of the Florida Department of Health and other state and local rules, regulations and ordinances. This position is in Columbia County, and is part of a multi county program to include Bradford, Hamilton, and Union Counties. The employee must be able to keep accurate, timely records, maintain required continuing education credits and training, perform field work requiring moderate physical effort in varied weather conditions both independently and in a team environment. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed to meet public health needs in the community. An automobile is required in the performances in the duties of this position.
Performs plan reviews, client consultations, site evaluations, permit approvals, and system inspections for the Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Program. Coordinates with other staff, initiates enforcement, and any other aspects of this program as required by state law or administrative code. Inputs construction and inspection data into Rehost daily as field work is completed.
Inspects various establishments and facilities such as food hygiene, group care, swimming pools, mobile home parks, tanning, and migrant camps for compliance with environmental health and sanitation regulations.
Conducts drinking water investigations and limited use water system inspections under the direction of the Environmental Manager. Collects required water samples. Completes required paperwork for lab submissions and maintains necessary files for investigation. Provides assistance to other counties in the multi county program.
Performs rabies investigations for Columbia County as directed by the Environmental Health Director.
Investigates sanitary nuisance complaints, prepares enforcement letters, and initiates enforcement if necessary.
Performs other duties as required or assigned to maintain environmental health programs in the department.
