HDR currently has an opening for a mid-level Environmental Scientist to join our team in Boise, ID. The successful candidate in this position will have a B.S. or M.S. degree or equivalent in biology, environmental science, marine or wildlife science, botany, or a similar field. The candidate will work as a member of high-performing teams on a variety of natural resource assessments to support development of public and private infrastructure projects throughout Idaho. Primary responsibilities include research and writing of documents relevant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), and Clean Water Act (CWA), and permitting and compliance support.
Duties may include data analysis; review and research of technical studies and publications; wetland delineations and ecological assessments; habitat type and vegetation mapping using aerial photography; CWA Section 404 permit applications, ESA biological assessments, other federal and local permit applications, mitigation and monitoring plans, and deliverables related to NEPA, CWA Section 404/10, and ESA. Critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, excellent writing skills, working well with others, and a willingness to learn are essential for this position. Technical writing experience is required. A demonstrated commitment to safety and quality is required.
Additional duties may include field studies such as wetland delineations and functional assessments, vegetative surveys, wildlife surveys, and other field activities in urban and remote settings. The candidate will support agency coordination and will work at the direction of HDR project managers. Work will be conducted independently as well as on teams, with appropriate senior technical oversight. This is a full-time regular position.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Marine or Wildlife Science, Botany or closely related field.
• 3 years of experience on environmental, transportation, permitting, planning and/ or compliance projects is preferred.
• Knowledge of federal regulatory framework, including NEPA, ESA, and CWA Section 10/404.
• Technical expertise in the design, implementation, interpretation, and presentation of data for environmental studies and investigations.
• Excellent technical and analytical writing skills required.
• MS Office experience.
• Strong conceptual organization problem solving and research abilities.
• Positive attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills, adaptability and ability to work with engineers, planners, agencies, and the public are required.
