is seeking a


biological field technician needed for a post-construction fatality monitoring program at an operational solar facility in Mountain Home, Idaho.

The field work begins the first week of April, 2018 and continues for 1 to 2 years through April, 2019.  Training will be this spring but has not been scheduled yet. Applicants must be willing to commit to the position until December 1, 2018, conducting surveys up to 2 consecutive 8hr days each month

, as well as 16 additional 3 to 4hr days each season


The primary responsibility of this position will be to conduct fatality searches for bats and birds around the solar panels of the facility every month for one full year, possibly extending to 2 years

The field technician will be trained using the USFWS protocol for fatality monitoring and then must adhere to the standardized protocol and keep detailed datasheets

The survey dates each month have some flexibility

Candidates who have previous field experience with birds and/or bats are preferred

Candidates must be able to walk for extended periods of time and be able to effectively handle exposure to weather extremes

The field technician will work independently

The field technician will be required to follow all solar facility-specific and Tetra Tech safety protocols and will be expected to provide their own suitable footwear (sturdy hiking boots) and field gear


Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology or equivalent degree preferred. Individuals currently seeking a degree are still encouraged to apply

Good bird and/or bat identification skills for species in the region

Prior field experience

Must be able to work independently and with others, and interact positively with project managers and clients

Must be able to follow instructions from manager and collect precise and thorough data

Experience with 4x4 vehicles, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record
