Pending Reclassification to Environmental Specialist II

The Aquifer Protection Program (APP) administers the Underground Injection Control (UIC) program, as delegated by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, in accordance with Part C of the Safe Drinking Water Act. The APP is responsible for reporting, rule-making, developing policy, data management, fiscal accountability, and compliance.

Specific Duties

Responsible for becoming knowledgeable of the UIC federal program and its requirements.

Performs technical reviews of monitoring data for completeness, timeliness, and compliance with UIC rule and permit requirements; tracks data reviews, and effectively communicates the review results with supervisor, senior program analyst, and District staff, when necessary.

Coordinates and tracks the number and type of facility inspections by District and updates Level of Service statistics, and reports same on UIC Compliance page. Provides timely updates on compliance and inspection actions to supervisor.

Prepares, schedules, and electronically presents training presentations to the District staff, as approved on the Employee Development Plan and posts recorded training events to UIC Compliance page.

Coordinates with District staff on compliance issues and support staff who perform UIC data entry and prepare Monthly Operation Report templates. Provides individual training, when necessary.

Maintains a UIC Compliance page that tracks pertinent compliance information and maintains forms that District and Tallahassee staff can access.

Assists supervisor in cross-program coordination requiring compliance and enforcement section expertise, as assigned by supervisor.

Performs other related duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Essential:

Ability to prepare technical reports.

Ability to collect, record, and analyze geologic data using scientific methods and techniques, including computer analysis.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to maintain a valid driver's license.

Ability to determine work priorities and manage tasks through completion.

Ability to maintain a professional decorum during conflict resolution.

Preferred:

Knowledge of ground water resources and methods of planning and evaluations.

Knowledge of water well drilling methods.

Knowledge of Florida rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the science of geology/hydrogeology.
