Job Description:
ERM
is seeking a Staff Environmental Biologist
to conduct biological monitoring and support impact / risk assessments for projects throughout California. This opening is located in Sacramento, CA
and is a full-time, salary-based position. Applicants must be local to California and familiar with California regulatory processes. Successful candidates must be flexible and responsive to a challenging and changing work environment where schedules and tasks fluctuate according to the needs of the project.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitoring / survey efforts include plant, avian, mammal, and/or aquatic biota
General habitat classification / characterization experience
Electronic data collection
Handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS data collection
Daily reporting and survey report compilation
Coordinating with construction contractors, project managers, and resource specialists
Other duties as assigned or required
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of a Bachelor degree in a biology, environmental science, or related life science discipline.
Masters will be preferred
Recent graduate to 4 years of experience
Ability to perform biological monitoring / field work
Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions
Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must have strong attention to detail in documentation of work
Must have strong organization and communication skills
Must have strong quantitative skills to manage, query, review, and analyze large biological and chemical data-sets
Work schedule may include weekends and/or over-time
Desire to work in the field for extended periods of time and maintain a positive attitude
Willingness and ability to travel as needed
Demonstrated independent and effective problem solving and decision making skills
Experience preparing Section 404, 401, 1600, 2081 permit applications (preferred, not required)
Ability to conduct impact / risk assessments (preferred, not required)
Ability to conduct statistical analysis of data using parametric and non-parametric (preferred, not required)
Experience conducting wetland delineations (preferred, not required)
Experience with special status species surveys according to applicable survey protocol(s) (preferred, not required)
Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Ability to pass pre-hire background check and drug test
