Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Net Zero Program group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Sustainability Department Manager! Our team works an on-site 9x80 schedule located at our Willow Creek facility with every other Friday off.

Responsibilities Include:

Manage full program scope from formulation stages to project control and performance measurement through project delivery and closeout.

Direct client and partner interface and collaboration. This may include multiple clients in different organizations, and potentially including multi-laboratory, commercial, and/or international collaborations.

Build effective teams across technical fields and support functions including financial, quality procurement, legal, regulatory, etc.

Engage strategically with INL, other DOE laboratories, BMI (and other Battelle Laboratories), and industry. Builds and/or leads multi-disciplinary teams across the Lab.

Set Sustainability Program strategic objectives and ensure successful completion of program objectives.

Initiate innovation in areas supporting sustainable programs/projects or other projects. Short and long-term strategic component is primary responsibility.

Translates strategy into actions for implementation.

Oversee Sustainability Program implementation.

Work with the Net-Zero Program office to ensure sustainability objectives are aligned.

Establish organization strategic objectives, development of policy, procedures, and control mechanisms.

Provide staff development and mentoring and assist with succession plan development.

 

','!*!Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field. Ten years’ experience in sustainability, knowledge of environmental and climate related issues with a clear track record of successfully implementing sustainability strategies across large organizations.

Foundational understanding of concepts related to sustainability and Net Zero such as operational/embodied carbon, climate change, resilience, lifecycle costs, distributed energy resources, social equity, and environmental justice issues

Strong analytical skills, including experience with data analysis and interpretation

Experience growing teams and designing organizations to maximize long-term impact

Strong project management skills, including the ability to lead multiple projects and work independently

Strong verbal, written and visual interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with internal customers and external partners

Clear understanding of existing Federal regulations (DOE Orders, Executive Orders, recent and legacy federal statues, etc.)

Strong experience aligning with existing sustainability frameworks such as the World Resource Institute’s and Land Management Institute’s Public Sector GHG Accounting and Reporting Standard (Public Sector Standard); Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Climate Leaders Guidance; and EPA’s “GHG Reporting Program” (GHGRP, 40 CFR 98).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related field

Professional accreditation with industry framework such as LEED, PMI, etc.

Experience with sustainability reporting tools such as GHG Protocol, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Salary Grade MR0300: 230 ($121,212 - $206,232)
